Aside from its obvious calamities, war assaults our very sense of morality. Not only does the soldier face frequent moral choices each and every day, so does the ordinary citizen. Lies, distrust and deceit may suddenly become virtues upon which our very lives depend and these new rules of survival apply not only to adults. In such dangerous times, authority figures may no longer be trusted, for all of society is thrown into total chaos. A world where police, government officials, friends and neighbours, even family members may turn into collaborators and traitors.
This is the story of a young boy as he wends his way, not always under the guidance of his family and several new 'house guests', through this uncharted and treacherous labyrinth.
This 40.000 word novel was written in the span of 72 hours during the Labour Day Weekend (Saturday 5 September till Monday 7 September 2009) under the auspices of the 2009 CBC International 3 Day Novel Contest.
