Watercolours

Sarah Chi Brown was born on Vancouver Island and has spent most of her life living in small coastal communities, including many years in Dodge Cove. Growing up commercial fishing on the Northwest Coast instilled a love of boats, the ocean, and a lifestyle revolving around the tides.

Sarah is proud to document the world she grew up in. She portrays life on the coast: the disappearing cannery buildings, wooden boats, wildlife, and families that live, work, and play here. She is constantly inspired by her husband, who is a shipwright, to show the craftsmanship behind boats; the strength as well as the works of art that they are.

Sarah gravitated to art classes in high school and attended a few art history classes at Kwantlen, otherwise she is completely self-taught. Sarah has always experimented with different medium, techniques, and subject matter, but has gravitated to watercolour since first using it a few years ago.

Since her first art show at Rainforest Books in early 2009, Sarah has been busy with commissioned paintings as well as more watercolour originals.
